Welcome to grade 1 page. Here you will find information about what we are doing in class. Please visit the songs page to help practice French at home.
During this time of school closure, please remember that your health and that of your family comes first. These are some suggestions to help you maintain your French confidence!
*** All videos on this site are links to Youtube, as such all students MUST have parent supervision when accessing Youtube***
April: A game that many of you have enjoyed is our flyswatter game. You could create your own flashcards with vocabulary that we have learned and play with your families! You could start with a few pictures (with words on the back to check answers if you need to) and then add more as you teach your family more French. Remember that you need to take turns, and encourage your family to keep trying even if they make a mistake, just as I encourage you to try in class!
April 6:Teach someone in your house how to introduce themselves using “bonjour, je m’appelle …… (insert your name). Comment t’appelles-tu?” Also try teaching them the other introduction questions that we learned this year. For example “comment ca va?” March: During the start of the school closure, I hope that you are all safe and healthy. First off, please take care of yourselves! I look forward to seeing everyone at school again. To help maintain your French vocabulary and confidence, I would recommend reviewing the songs that we have done in class, as well as practicing the questions that we have learned so far this year.
February: We have now started learning objects we can find in our classroom. We will be asking questions such as "Est-ce que tu as ...." finishing with class objects, or "Qu-ce que tu as dans ton pupitre?"
January: Welcome back! We are starting a new unit about body parts and giving directions. The goal is to be able to ask for help after getting hurt and to say where they are hurt. Some example sentences to know are "Madame, j'ai besoin d'aide". "'j'ai male a la jambe" (or other body parts). "il m'a frappe" ** due to unforeseen circumstances, we were not able to fully accomplish this goal. We all learned out body parts and should be able to identify them.
November: We will be continuing to talk about things that we like, such as colours and games that we play. We will be practicing with questions like "Quel couleur est-ce que tu aimes?" and " Qu'est-ce que tu aimes jouer?"
October: We had lots of practice asking "comment ca va" and are now starting to talk about colours and asking our favorite colours.
September: Welcome to your first year of French! I have enjoyed meeting all of you this week. We will be starting out the year learning how to say hello, good bye, and how we are doing in French,
